Aloha Honorable Mayor Kenoi& County Council,
I am opposed to the purchase of the above Hawi parcel with Open Space funds.
I m sending a photo taken today Sat.March 15 at 9:30 am. The lot is empty with the exception of a few
vehicles parked on the left for the Farmers Market which is held on an adjoining parcel with banyan
trees. There is additional parking available in the designated lots.
The organizers of the petition to purchase this lot use large signs indicating the petition is to save the
Banyan Trees Area. The banyan trees are not located on this parcel.
This parcel has a steep embankment on the Akoni Pule Hwy side so pedestrians do not access the market
from this lot. Currently the only vehicle access to the lot is via adjoining parcels.
I have spoke with other community members that also feel the owners of this property should be
allowed to proceed with building their home& business on this parcel.
I support open space funds but feel those funds are better spent on protecting our shoreline access&
other parcels of historical value.
