This space has long held community significance for cultural events such as the Koha|a Country Fair, Hula and |
other musical events, birthday parties, pony rides,overflow for the Saturday Hawi Farmer's Market(which is '
bursting at the seams),community circus,weekly dog training and tai chi lessons, etc. Our children have quite /
literally grown up in the space,and as it is, Hawi Town has few"gathering spots within green space/parks," |
unlike Kapaau with KannehannehaPark. Such green space is vital in keeping a downtown area dynamic and /
social,and it is my understanding this type of space is also consistent with our current CDP,a well as a best
practice when considering town centers,as exemplified really throughout Hawaii,the mainland United States
and across the world. KHy family isin support of this resolution personally,and as the top Realtor in the District,
| support thoughtful smart growth considerations such as this initiative. The follow upwill be to plan this space
carefully in consideration with the adjacent TMK's to truly transform this immediate area while maintaining the
small town, rural feel of Hawi. This area and the Banyan Trees immediately adjacent are truly the heart of Hawi
Town.
