As the town goes through the process of post sugar cane industry revitalization, this highly valued open space will become increasingly important to strengthening the local community as a social and economic hub. I work for a non-profit that has recently written a National Endowment for the Arts grant proposal to encourage more cultural events on this plaza area and we strongly support maintaining this great centrally located open space property. There are several other areas along the highway with better pedestrian access that could be used for more effective commercial development, which would be welcomed for economic revitalization, but the potential loss of the open space 'plaza' in the heart of our town would be a great loss for current and future generations. With the current parcel owners willing to sell this to the County, this is a pivotal opportunity to invest in the future of Hawi's village-core infrastructure. Preserving this open space will have great social and economic benefits for generations to come. Thanks you for your support. Sincerely, Marcy Montgomery i hawaii @oneisland.or Comm. No. Ref.
