RESOLUTION NO. 424 14
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HILO ORCHID
SOCIETY INC. FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A 2015 HAWAII -GROWN ORCHID
CALENDAR.
WHEREAS, the Hilo Orchid Society Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 207 — 13 designated 2014 as the year of the Hawaii -Grown
Orchid; and
WHEREAS, the beauty of the Island of Hawaii is considered by many to be its single
most important asset, and flowers are an important aspect of this beauty; and
WHEREAS, many residents around the island are Orchid growers and enthusiasts; and
WHEREAS, the floral industry is a significant part of our island's economic engine; and
WHEREAS, the Island of Hawaii is also known as the Orchid Isle; and
WHEREAS, emphasizing the special beauty and fragrance of Hawaii -Grown orchids
promotes the beauty and attractiveness of the Island of Hawaii for our visitor industry; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency
Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution
identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, or event for which the
grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hilo Orchid Society Inc.
for the production of a 2015 Hawaii -Grown Orchid calendar; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
