Dear Chairman Yoshimoto and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Keith F. Unger from the South Kona District to the Hawaii
County Leeward Planning Commission. Mr. Unger is a lifelong resident of Hawai'i. He
is the General Manager of McCandless Land & Cattle Co., LLC. Mr. Unger is a member
of the Hawai'i Burial Council, a board member of the Kona Soil and Water Conservation
District, the chair of the Land Issues Committee of the Hawai'i State Cattlemens Council
and an advisor to the Hawai'i Island Land Trust.
Mr. Unger states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed he will
replace Richard Nelson, Ill, whose term will expire on March 31, 2015. Hawai'i County
Charter Section 13-4(c), states that "members of any board or commission appointed
for a term of two years or less shall be eligible to succeed themselves for an additional
full term." If Mr. Unger is confirmed, he will be eligible for a full term of five years to end
on March 31, 2020.
