Please find attached proposed amendments to Resolution No. 445-14. The proposed amendments are illustrated below in Ramseyer format with respect to the contents of Resolution No. 445-14 (material to be deleted is bracketed and stricken; material to be added is underscored). I. Resolution No. 445-14 is amended by amending the title to read as follows: "A RESOLUTION URGING HAWAII ISLAND LEGISLATORS TO REQUEST [A ] $403,476 IN FUNDING FROM THE HAWAII INVASIVE SPECIES COUNCIL [4O] FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION TO [ ] CONTROL THE SPREAD OF THE LITTLE FIRE ANT." 2. Resolution No. 445-14 is amended by amending the second WHEREAS clause to read as follows: "WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation [and the 14aw Ant Lab e working on a pilot pr ,4] has applied for a grant from the Hawaii Invasive Comm. No. Ref.To: G" Ref. Dote 4 Hawai`i County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Emplo.ver. Species Council to continue working on a pilot project with the Hawaii Ant Lab to control the spread of the little fire ant in County beaches and parks; and" 4. Resolution No. 445-14 is amended by deleting the sixth paragraph as follows: [WHEREAS, _`_ 11 VVl l 111 Y{AJl Y 5. Resolution No. 445-14 is amended by amending the seventh WHEREAS clause to read as follows: "WHEREAS, support from Hawaii Island legislators is crucial for the Hawaii Invasive Species Council to approve [$480;000] a grant for $403,476 to the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation for the pilot project to fight the spread of the little fire ant in Hawaii County; now, therefore," 6. Resolution No. 445-14 is amended by amending the enacting clause to read as follows: "BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the Hawaii Island delegation of the Hawaii State Legislature is urged to write a letter to the Hawaii Invasive Species Council requesting [a $400,000] the awarding of a$403,476 grant to the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation for the little fire ant pilot project in fiscal year 2015." A draft copy of Resolution No. 445-14, Draft 2, is attached with these proposed amendments incorporated therein. DO/ps att. 2 A RESOLUTION URGING HAWAII ISLAND LEGISLATORS TO REQUEST $403,476 IN FUNDING FROM THE HAWAII INVASIVE SPECIES COUNCIL FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION TO CONTROL THE SPREAD OF THE LITTLE FIRE ANT. WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation has applied for a grant from the Hawaii Invasive Species Council to continue working on a pilot project with the Hawaii Ant Lab to control the spread of the little fire ant in County beaches and parks; and WHEREAS, the pilot project investigates different insecticides and application methods to develop a treatment strategy that is safe and effective; and WHEREAS, this project will distribute information about preventing the spread of the little fire ant to all landowners, including private citizens, businesses, the State, the federal government, and county governments throughout Hawaii; and WHEREAS, without funds to continue and expand the project across Hawaii Island, County beaches and parks will be overrun with the little fire ant; and WHEREAS, support from Hawaii Island legislators is crucial for the Hawaii Invasive Species Council to approve a grant for $403,476 to the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation for the pilot project to fight the spread of the little fire ant in Hawaii County; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the Hawaii Island delegation of the Hawaii State Legislature is urged to write a letter to the Hawaii Invasive Species Council requesting the awarding of a $403,476 grant to the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation for the little fire ant pilot project in fiscal year 2015. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Gilbert Kahele, the Honorable Russell E. Ruderman, the Honorable Josh Green, the Honorable Malama Solomon, the Honorable Mark M. Nakashima; the Honorable Clift Tsuji; the Honorable Richard H.K. Onishi; the Honorable Faye P. Hanohano; the Honorable Richard Creagan; the Honorable Nicole E. Lowen; and the Honorable Cindy Evans. 3
