RESOLUTION NO. 459 14
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE 2014 HAMAKUA SUGAR PLANTATION
DAYS FESTIVAL.
WHEREAS, the 2014 Hamakua Sugar Plantation Days Festival is the 20-year
celebration of the closure of the Hamakua Sugar Company; and
WHEREAS, this event commemorates the history of plantation life, brings back the
memories of community togetherness and family values, and shares how the closing of sugar
mills affected the mill workers' sense of security and community identity; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 Hamakua Sugar Plantation Days Festival will educate and bring
awareness to the diverse cultural ethnicities of Hawai`i Island, while bringing enjoyment to the
quality of life for its residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, events and activities during the festival include arts and crafts, food booths,
historical photo displays, cultural performances and music, and historical photo displays; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 Hamakua Sugar Plantation Days Festival is being organized and
sponsored by the Hawai`i County Department of Parks and Recreation, Culture Education
Division; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to
the Department of Parks and Recreation, Culture Education Division, to help fund the
2014 Hamakua Sugar Plantation Days Festival; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

OUT AND FROM:
010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC -- Contingency Relief $7,000
CREDITED TO:
010.500.5517.02 Department of Parks and Recreation $7,000

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
