Comm. 3109: REPORT - A STUDY TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE WAIPIO VALLEY
AS A VALUABLE STATE RESOURCE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
From Erik K. Abe, Legislative Analyst, House Majority
Staff Office, State House of Representatives, dated
November 20, 1991, transmitting a copy of "A Study to
Protect and Preserve Waipio Valley as a Valuable State
Resource for Future Generations" drafted by the Task
Force to Preserve Waipio Valley and being circulated
for public review and comment.
"States the Task Force, consisting of representatives
from the State House of Representatives, the State
Senate, the State Department of Land and Natural
Resources, the Hawaii County Council, the Hawaii County
Mayor's Office, Bishop Museum, Hamakua Sugar Company,
and various community organizations throughout the
Hamakua District, will be presenting its findings and
recommendations to the general public at a community
meeting at the Honokaa High School Cafeteria on
December 12, 1991 at 7:00 p.m.

From Councilwoman Helene H. Hale, dated November 26,
1991, transmitting to the Planning Committee for
consideration during its golf course workshop, an
article entitled, "Japan Golf Hazards Include Health,"
which appeared in the Honolulu Advertiser on
November 23, 1991.
Comm. 3131: NANSAY'S GOLF COURSES
From Jerry Rothstein, Coordinator, Hawaii Island
Environmental Council (HIEC), dated November 20, 1991,
transmitting copy of their letter to Planning Director
Norman Hayashi, dated November 18, 1991, regarding a
request for a contested case hearing for Nansay's Use
Permit application for six Pauko golf courses and
informing of their concerns. Also transmits the
November 1991 newsletter of the Hawaii Island
Environmental Council.

AMENDED URBAN RENEWAL PLAN FOR THE
KAIKO'O PROJECT, JUNE 1965
From Mayor Lorraine R. Inouye, dated November 26, 1991,
pursuant to Resolution No. 233-90 and their assessment
of the requirements and responsibilities contained in
the above-subject plan, requests consideration in
designating the Planning Department as the agency to
oversee the Urban Renewal Plan.
Comm. 3126: CONDOVISION OF TMK: 7-6-12:5
(COMMUNICATION NO. 2999)
From Planning Director Norman K. Hayashi, dated
November 26, 1991, commenting, as requested, on
Chrystal Nylin and Bill Ferreira's concerns regarding
the "condovision" of TMK: 7-6-12:5. Informs an
application to subdivide the property into two parcels
is presently pending in his office and that the
subdivision has been granted tentative approval with
final approval pending the completion of the necessary
improvements (water and roadway).
Further informs no approvals have been granted to
construct any ohana dwellings on the property, but
after the subdivision request is approved, the owners
of the properties can submit an application to
construct an ohana dwelling on each of the lots.

Comm. 3127: STATUS REPORT - SIGNALIZATION
KUAKINI HIGHWAY/LAKO STREET, HOLUALOA. NORTH KONA
From Gregg Kashiwa, representing Gamlon Corporation,
dated November 27, 1991, transmitting an article from
West Hawaii Today, dated November 26, 1991, concerning
the signalization of Lako Street/Kuakini Highway.
Also, informs that Hugh Ono of State Department of
Transportation has invited all concerned parties owning
land mauka of the intersection to a meeting on
December 12, 1991 to discuss participation in cost
sharing and that another status report on the results
of the meeting will be forthcoming.
