Hi I'm Councilmember Bob Jacobson and represented Puna/Kau/South Kona from
2002-2008. I am here to support CM Wille's Resolution 452- 14, to issue a new Solid
waste RFP that would ensure we adhere to our policy of ZW and provide good stable
jobs for residents.
The Mayor could have implemented any number of solutions during the last 6 years
but chose to embrace old polluting technologies that will reward his supporters and
drain money and resources from our residents. Instead he put forth this perverted RFP
that essentially excluded modern, tried and true methods of handling our solid waste.
The HI CC is the policy making body of the County. You need to exercise your policy
making powers and start over on this RFP to exclude incineration and include zero
waste technologies. Tell the Mayor he should follow ZW policy instead of telling the CC
what policy they must follow. Don't be afraid to do the right thing.
This is going to be a big part of the upcoming election campaign. Voters need to see
you support zw with the long term jobs it provides. They need to see that you oppose
the expensive old style polluting incinerator technologies the current rfp will deliver.
All of us want clean air, clean water and clean food. Pushing through the Mayor's
flawed RFP will deny us all the options of clean air, clean water, clean locally produced
foods and good jobs for local residents. Any voters listening to this show should tell
their Councilmember that they want clean air, clean water, clean food and good jobs
that ZW will help to provide for the people of HI County.
