Dear Council members,
I was a supporter of the Zero waste plan based on recycling,
sorting to remove products to re sell and getting compostables
and hazardous waste out of the waste stream. I still support
this approach along with cleaning up the landfills we have and
creating lined fills. This would greatly reduce the amount of
waste, create some income (and jobs) rather than increasing
waste and hazards to be burned or gassed at great monetary 0
(including bonds and tax increases) and environmental
expense.
The aim is to get the County to withdraw the current "request for proposal" (RFP) that limits proposals to large
waste-to-energy facilities, and for the County to then issue a new RFP that would provide opportunities for
composting and other locally-based entrepreneurial approaches.
