Subject: RE: Bills 256 & 257; County Council Override of Mayor's Veto
Dear County Council,
I understand that Mayor Billy Kenoi has vetoed Bills 256 and 257 which would have made
changes to the current Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits Fund. While the monies
from this fund have numerous benefits for the community, it seems to me that it's primary use
should be for the Health and Safety directly related to PGV's geothermal activity's effects on the
environment and it's community. If the intent is to expand the Geothermal activity in this area,
should there not be a legislation that allows for the relocation of the community affected by such
expansion? In my opinion, any agreements made regarding PGV and the Pohoiki relocation
should pertain to the geothermal activity by PGV at the time. We are talking about changes to the
current agreements and counter balances should be in place such that were recommended by
Bills 256 and 257. As such, I would request that the Mayor's Veto be overridden by the Council.
