HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0093.017 1998-2000 \J December 23, 1998 Testimony for the Hawaii County Council: I want to take this opportunity to state a few hazards for growers that can cost the County money. I am a grower who has lived in Hawaii twenty years. 1) Once a chopper was over me and I was in a hurry to cover up my plants and I sliced through a hapu fern and into my hand (which the County had to pay for my medical bills). I got 6 stitches and almost cut my finger off. 2) Once I was rushing in a panic (choppers again) and fell cutting my hands and face, almost busting my teeth (again, which the County would have paid for). 3) Working one day up in the mountain, I fell in a crack. Luckily, there were no broken bones and I was able to get out. If not, then I would have been a missing person and had the helicpters looking for me! 4) Once my daughter and a friend were out taking care of their horses and the chopper scared them. When they ran, they fell and spooked the horses and almost got trampled. Again, the County was lucky. Just imagine the lawsuit: "Chopper spooks horses and young girls get trampled ". Just that one lawsuit and I would never have to grow again – thanks to the County. I love this game. Let's continue. Please leave the current system in use. RECEIVED - - Thank you.
