Dear Councilman Arakaki
I would like to strongly urge you and the rest of the Council
to approve the Alii Highway. It is badly needed here to alleviate
the extremely heavy traffic on the Queen Kaahunanu and the Alii
Drive. I have no idea where Curtis Tyler got his information
that the majority of people in North Kona oppose the projected
highway. 1 will say that the people that 1'have talked to
certainly favor it. I certainly do not oppose improving Palani
Road; it is also badly needed. In fact the traffic infrastructure
here is far behind the present population much less the
population that will be here in the near future. One other point
that I have been made aware of reccently is the significasnt
improvement in getting patients to the North Kona Hospital with
a limited access artery such as Alii Highway. Assuming that
the road to be built connecting the proposed highway with the
new community of Oceanside 1200 is adequate for rapidly moving
vehicles, it will provide much faster access to the hospital
from the Kilua area and north, an important consideration as
the population on this side of the island continues shifting
northward.
