Dear Mr. Arakaki,
I attended the public hearing in Kona in December 1998 when the Alii Hwy was
discussed along with the bond issue. I am not oplxosed to more roads in Kona but am
strongly opposed to the four lane highway that would cut through existing sub - divisions
and too close to schools.
I am a home owner who has followed this ongoing planning and controversy for more
than ten years. WE should not have such a highway just because it was promised to
developers in the past. No one had the right to promise anything to the developers.
Joe Reynolds is off base when he says that most people want the highway. He is out of
touch with what the people want(maybe why he to the election) and only looking at $
$$$ from the developers that will capitalize on this ill fated and unneeded four lane
highway.
An acceptable Alii Parkway should be a local for local needs including walking and
biking trails, cross streets and beautiful plantings. Speed limits should be set low for
safety as well as to promote the Beauty of Kona: -.
Improve and widen Kuakini Highway if you want to access Ocean Side 1250 and points
South. Shouldn't the route to Kona Community yT;,spital be Improved?
Listen to the residents who live here, pay taxes and vote not the developers and business
people who take the money and leave.
