REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> REGARDING: Communication No. 938 <br /> DATE: July 17, 2014 <br /> LOCATION: Council Chambers, Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TITLE: NOMINATIONS OF PETER J.K. DAHLBERG TO KAILUA VILLAGE <br /> DESIGN COMMISSION <br /> EXPLANATION: Communication dated June 25, 2014, from Mayor William P. Kenoi, <br /> submitting for the Council's review and confirmation of Mr. Dahlberg's <br /> nomination. Executive Assistant to the Mayor, Ms. Charmaine <br /> Shigemura, introduced nominee. <br /> A lifelong resident of Hawai`i, Mr. Dahlberg is a self-employed <br /> Civil/Geotechnical Engineer, the regional director of MATHCOUNTS, a <br /> member of ASCE and NSPE, and a member and past president of HSPE. <br /> Mr. Dahlberg states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If <br /> confirmed, he will serve a term to end on December 31, 2016. <br /> Mr. Dahlberg appeared in front of your Committee with no statement to <br /> offer. Council Member Ford expressed concerns of all Mayor's nominees <br /> and will not be supporting nominees. Council Member Kanuha shared the <br /> importance to have experienced designers on this commission due to items <br /> nominees would be looking at if appointed. Council Member Kanuha also <br /> shared the importance of having a cultural balance in our Boards and <br /> Commissions. <br /> Your Committee agreed that Mr. Dahlberg is not required to appear at <br /> final confirmation before the full Council. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: Confirmation of the appointments of Peter J. K.
