Re: Operating Budget
The Hawai`i Invasive Species Council (HISC) is providing $175,000 to the County of Hawai`i to
be used to fund its Little Fire Ant (LFA) Control program. The LFA Control program's goal is to
fight the fire ant, an invasive species, at Department of Parks and Recreation facilities.
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the HISC for this
grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating
$175,000 for these funds to the Little Fire Ant Control program - HISC account.

A. REQUEST:
Requesting a bill for an ordinance to create a revenue and expenditure account in the Park Maintenance
budget entitled "LFA Control-HISC" in the amount of$175,000 as well as accept a grant from the Hawaii
Invasive Species Council (HISC) in the same amount.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The HISC has awarded the County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation $175,000 to fund a Little
Fire Ant (LFA) control program for the departments facilities.
Funding will be used to hire up to 3 staff and provide them the equipment as well as the necessary bait. The
staff will be tasked to identify infected areas and bait on a 6 week cycle.
