Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill 592, reports
as follows :
The purpose of Bill 592 is to amend Article 16, Section 2-97,
Chapter 2, of the Hawaii County Code.
Communication No . 3421, from Finance Director William Takaba, dated
March 14 , 1992, submits Bill 592 for an ordinance to amend
Article 16 , Section 2-97, Chapter 2, of the Hawaii County Code,
relating to travel and other expenses . He states that the purpose
of this ordinance is to increase the allowable rental and parking
expenses for U-drive cars from $40 to $50 . This increase is needed
to keep up with the rising cost of car rentals .
Your Committee questioned the policy which requires car insurance to
be purchased for each car rental . The insurance may not be needed
since the driver ' s personal car insurance could be used. Mr . Takaba
was requested to evaluate this policy.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the intent and purpose
of Bill 592 and recommends that it pass first reading .
