Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication
No. v3179 , reports as follows :
The purpose of Communication No . 3179 is to recommend the
appointment of the following to the Police Commission:
Mr . Wray T. Straus, an independent from South Kohala, to fill the
expired term of Mr. Reiso Nakamoto, for a term ending December 31,
1996 . Mr. Straus is a security officer at Mauna Lani Resort .
Pursuant to Section 7-2 .2 of the Hawaii County Charter, the Mayor
shall appoint members to the Commission to be confirmed by the
Council as prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County Charter .
Your Committee advised the appointee of individual responsibility to
attend each session of the commission and directed him to arrive on
time.
Your Committee heard about his personal qualifications . He retired
as a detective after 28 years of service with the Honolulu Police
Department and served as police chief in Micronesia for three
years . Presently, he is a member of the Honolulu Police Oldtimer ' s
Club and the Masonic Lodge.
Your Committee on Finance recommends approval of the appointment of
Mr . Wray T. Straus to the Police Commission for a term ending
December 31, 1996 .
