Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution
No. 326-91, reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 326-91 is to create twenty-five ( 25 )
additional Fire Fighter Recruit SR-14 positions .
There are currently fifteen ( 15 ) authorized Fire Fighter Recruit
positions within the Fire Department . Whenever a Fire Fighter
vacancy occurs, a Fire Fighter Recruit is hired using funds from the
vacant position. Upon successful completion of one year ' s training,
the Recruit then qualifies to become a Fire Fighter, and fills the
vacancy. The Fire Fighter Recruit is paid as an SR-14 , whereas a
Fire Fighter an SR-16 .
Your Committee was informed by the Fire Chief that there will be
20 new Fire Department positions and with increased funding from the
State, 14 new EMS positions in fiscal year 1991-1992 . Due to the
length of the training period for a Fire Fighter Recruit, 15
positions are deemed inadequate to keep the Fire Fighter positions
filled . When there are more than 15 Fire Fighter vacancies, one
recruit class will need to be completed before another Recruit is
hired. This means it often takes well over a year to fill a vacant
Fire Fighter position.
Your Committee on Finance concurs with the intent of Resolution
No . 326-91 and recommends its adoption.
