Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication
No . 2284, reports as follows :
The purpose of Communication No. 2284 is to recommend the appointment
of the following :
Police Commission
Mr . Taka Fujitani , an independent from Kona, to
fill the vacancy of Mr . Reginald T. Morimoto, for
a term ending December 31, 1995 . Mr . Fujitani is
field representative of the Hawaii Carpenters
Union.
Pursuant to Section 7-2.2 of the Hawaii County
Charter, the Mayor shall appoint members to the
Commission to be confirmed by the Council, as
prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County
Charter .
Your Committee advised the appointee of his individual responsibility
to attend each session of the commission and directed him to actively
participate and vote his conscience on all issues brought before him.
Your Committee heard from the appointee about his personal
qualifications . He served as an interim member of the Police
Commission when another member resigned.
Your Committee on Finance recommends approval of the appointment of
Mr . Taka Fujitani to the Police Commission.
