The White House Commission selects honored scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. The 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholars are comprised of one young man and one young woman from each state and you have been chosen to represent our State of Hawai'i. You have also been a Richard Smart Scholar, earned the Yale Book Award, advanced as a National Merit finalist, earned the National Forensics League Degree of Distinction for accomplishments on the debate team, an AP Scholar with Distinction and you were chosen as one of only 72 out of 742 national and international applicants accepted to the SSP or Summer Science Program in Santa Barbara, one of the oldest and most successful summer enrichment programs for academically gifted high school students.' Lysha Matsunobu you are an exemplary student and your achievements have brought recognition and honor to school, families, community, the State of Hawai'i and most importantly, to yourself.
