Subject: Exclusion of Ocean View Solo' Waste Transfer Station from the CIP
We at the [Discover/ Harbour Community Assoc :.iion would like to express our concern
over the exclusion of the Ocean View Solid Waste Transfer Station from the CIP budget.
The Kau District, which covers over seven hundred square miles, has only are solid
waste transfer station which is located in Wairihinu. The members of our community
who live in the Ocean View area have to ':ravel -,. er fifteen miles one way to reach the
solid waste transfer station in 'Waiohinu, They must travel on HER, RTE 11 which is
subject to high winds, These high winds cause a urge amount cif trash to be blown on
the roadway causing an unsightly mss. This ' :leeway Is also a hea'vil'y traveled route
for tourists who see the unsightly litter on tiie Fizie of the road,
The cost of hauling the trash to Waiohinu. a ro:u ' trip of thirty miles, is at least $3,00
in gas per trip, Consequently several of the area resieences not willing to travel that
distance have found alternate ways of disposir;g of their trash. They illegally dump it on
private or public property which causes a health ; is for their neighbors.
We strongly support the funding and building of "r: solid waste transfer station in the
Ocean View area of the District of Ka'u
