I am Robert Meierdiercks, My address is 83 -5397C Mamalahoa
Highway, Captain Cook Hawaii 96704. I have lived in this south Kona
area for twenty eight years.
I am here today to show my support for the Alii Highway and
for whatever funding is necessary for its realization. I have seen
prior proposed projects, such as the 1972 proposed highway from
TCailua, Kona to Papa Bay estates, dissolve because of a few peoples
lack of foresight in the growth potential of the area. I was new to
the area at that time and did not understand the arguments that
convinced the planners at that time to discard the project.
I am now, without any hesitation in favor of any "NEW" reliever
roads on our side of the island. I have seen times when the "ONLY
HIGHWAY" was blocked and other emergency vehicles were not able to
get to their respective problems.
People talk about widening Kuakini Highway, it will still
bottleneck at Honalo because it would be difficult to widen a whole
town. With the dedication of the Ocean side 1250 project and bypass
it would be inconceivable not to continue this thoroughfare through
to Kailua town. Please consider my testimony, not only for my sake
but for all the people who live down south and commute daily to
town.
