DAHLBERG AND ZON SULLENBERGER TO THE KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION This is in regard to the discussion at the Committee on Planning with respect to the Mayor's nomination of the two above referenced individuals to the Kailua Village Design Commission. I am providing the following clarification to assure the Council as to the integrity and vetting of the nomination process for these important boards and commissions. Chapter 25, Article 7 of the Hawaii County Code provides the enabling authority for the Kailua Village Design Commission. Section 25-7-2 (a), Design commission membership; appointment; term, provides in part, that "The design commission members shall include two design professionals (registered architects and/or landscape architects), two members with backgrounds in building construction and /or engineering, two members with knowledge about historic Kona, its cultural values and resources, and the remaining three members representing local business or property owners." (emphasis added) As you can see, Mr. Dahlberg and Mr. Sullenberger, a registered professional engineer and registered professional architect, respectively, were nominated to fill vacancies on the Kailua Village Design Commission which require members that have their specific professional qualifications. Furthermore, the membership criterion for the Kailua Village Design Commission is so specific that vacancies are somewhat difficult to fill so the administration is extremely grateful when qualified professionals agree Comm to serve. 93$, W.
