The grant funds will be used to allow the Hawai`i County Police Department to provide enforcement of the state law prohibiting tobacco sales to minors. In the current fiscal year's budget, $8,000 is appropriated for this program. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the additional funds into the Police Department's Department of Health—Tobacco Sting account, bringing the total grant appropriation to $12,000. Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of Hawai`i, this written request is submitted with niy approval that the above-referenced matter be waived from the Committee on Finance to the full Council for immediate action.
