Subject: Resolution 452-14 -Testimony in Support
Aloha Hawaii County Council Members,
I am writing in SUPPORT of Resolution 452-14 because Hawaii County's ineffective recycling programs are no
excuse to burn valuable resources. The Resolution calls for the withdrawal of Request for Proposal No.
3044 regarding the future of solid waste management for the County.
Burning Hawaii Island's waste will pollute the air, degrade environmental quality, harm public health and
create a huge burden on taxpayers' for the coming decades.
I SUPPORT Resolution 452-14 as it calls for the issuance of a new Request for Proposals to provide for the
eligibility of those entities or a combination of entities which seek to maximize the output of compostables
and generally maximize the highest value for each component of the waste stream.
