The Hawai`i Fire Department's water tanker fleet have capacities of 1,000 gallons or <br /> less, forcing the Department to depend on the Department of Public Works and privately owned <br /> water tankers to provide additional water delivery resources. <br /> According to the Hawai`i Fire Department, providing additional tankers of greater capacity is <br /> cost effective and will reduce operating costs while increasing firefighting effectiveness.
