REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> REGARDING: Communication No. 974 <br /> DATE: August 20, 2014 <br /> LOCATION: Council Chambers, Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TITLE: NOMINATION OF ANITA "ANIKA" L. GLASS TO THE SOUTH <br /> KOHALA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN ACTION <br /> COMMITTEE <br /> EXPLANATION: Communication dated July 22, 2014, from Mayor William P. Kenoi, <br /> submitting for the Council's review and confirmation of Ms. Glass's <br /> nomination. A motion to approve nomination was made by Ms. Wille and <br /> seconded by Ms. Ford. Executive Assistant to the Mayor, Ms. Charmaine <br /> Shigemura, introduced nominee via videoconferencing from Hilo Council <br /> Chambers. <br /> Ms. Glass is a 10-year resident of Hawai`i and the founder of Malama <br /> Waikoloa Nightingales, an organization responsible for saving over 600 <br /> donkeys from starvation and keeping them off County roads. She is also a <br /> member of the South Kohala Traffic Safety Committee, a member of the <br /> Daughters of American Revolution - Hawai`i Loa Chapter, and a former <br /> member of the Waikoloa Village Association Communications <br /> Committee. Ms. Glass states that she is a democrat and if confirmed, she <br /> will serve a term to end four years from the day that she is sworn in. <br /> Ms. Glass did not appear in front of your Committee as she was off-island <br /> due to personal family reasons. In her absence, Committee Member Wille <br /> stated that Anita has been a major contributor in the South Kohala Traffic <br /> Safety Committee and very active, not just with regard to Waikoloa but <br /> district wide issues. Ms. Wille expressed Ms. Glass will be a great <br /> addition and is very grateful that she is offering to be part of the <br /> committee, which currently has a number of vacancies. <br /> Your Committee agreed to proceed in Ms. Glass's absence with a request <br /> and understanding for an appearance by Ms. Glass at final confirmation <br /> before the full Council. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: Confirmation of the appointment of Anita"Anika" L.
