TITLE: NOMINATION OF ANITA "ANIKA" L. GLASS TO THE SOUTH
KOHALA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN ACTION
COMMITTEE
EXPLANATION: Communication dated July 22, 2014, from Mayor William P. Kenoi,
submitting for the Council's review and confirmation of Ms. Glass's
nomination. A motion to approve nomination was made by Ms. Wille and
seconded by Ms. Ford. Executive Assistant to the Mayor, Ms. Charmaine
Shigemura, introduced nominee via videoconferencing from Hilo Council
Chambers.
Ms. Glass is a 10-year resident of Hawai`i and the founder of Malama
Waikoloa Nightingales, an organization responsible for saving over 600
donkeys from starvation and keeping them off County roads. She is also a
member of the South Kohala Traffic Safety Committee, a member of the
Daughters of American Revolution - Hawai`i Loa Chapter, and a former
member of the Waikoloa Village Association Communications
Committee. Ms. Glass states that she is a democrat and if confirmed, she
will serve a term to end four years from the day that she is sworn in.
Ms. Glass did not appear in front of your Committee as she was off-island
due to personal family reasons. In her absence, Committee Member Wille
stated that Anita has been a major contributor in the South Kohala Traffic
Safety Committee and very active, not just with regard to Waikoloa but
district wide issues. Ms. Wille expressed Ms. Glass will be a great
addition and is very grateful that she is offering to be part of the
committee, which currently has a number of vacancies.
Your Committee agreed to proceed in Ms. Glass's absence with a request
and understanding for an appearance by Ms. Glass at final confirmation
before the full Council.
RECOMMENDATION: Confirmation of the appointment of Anita"Anika" L. Glass to the South
Kohala Community Development Plan Action Committee.
