RE= Allowance of parking on makki side of Ali'i Drive in Kailua-Kona
Aloha, Mr. Tyler and other council members:
It has come to my attention that the council is considering further limitation of parking
on Ali'i Drive. 12ecertly public parking has bee*_, severely lunited on Ali'i Drive (closing most
mauka areas), giving a distinct feeling that pul>iic ~~ccess to coastal areas as well as Ali'i Drive itself
is being eroded.
As anyone who drives or lives on Ali'i Dr1V4 knows, the popularity of this area is grcnvinj
exponentially, Cycliss, beach users, and pedestrians jam this stretch which is closest to th:~
shoreline, shadiest, gad with the slowest traffic. Their desire to use this area is not being mei. I
realize that closing tl•e mauka side to parking o ves cyclists better. access to the roadway. However,
,ve have sacrificed--tither than increased and unproved--use for all who should be able to enjoy
this area: residents ar,d tourists alike.
I believe that r, long-r<1noe, well-though: plan noeds to be conaid~red and unplen,ented for
this thoroughfare, rather than piecemeal solutions that only create further problems L;~a.}~i~_

a;r• of :Cailua-Kong's main visitor and resident attractions. Even berms would add salrry while
making division of p~.destrians, parking, cars and bicycles aesthetically and economicai:y possible
Putting utilities underground would enhance the safety--an issue which concerns many
residents--rather that allowing faster traffic flow along this road (as is now the case near Ali i
Lani Condo>niniunts).
