SUBJECT: Island-Wide Coordination of the Lava Flow Emergency
I request 60 minutes for a discussion to allow the Director of Civil Defense and the Director of
Public Works to provide an update regarding the lava flow emergency. The scope of discussion
would include an update on the status of the flow, the status of evacuation plans and routes, as
well as an update on county wide coordination for transportation needs and temporary housing
for residents and animals. The discussion is requested to include any measures being taken by
the Director of Civil Defense to coordinate with the island wide Community Emergency
Response Team network (CERT) and with other appropriate organizations including the Good
Shepherd Foundation that is helping to coordinate the evacuation and refuge of pets and
domesticated animals.
Please place this matter on the appropriate September 30, 2014 Committee agenda.
