RESOLUTION NO. 535 14
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING /APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII COUNTY
ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL TO PURCHASE CITRIC ACID TO HELP
CONTROL COQUI FROG INFESTATION
WHEREAS, on the Big Island of Hawaii, Eleutherdactylus coqui, the coqui frog, has
taken hold, especially at the lower elevations on the East side, causing many areas of Hilo to be
inundated with the incessant night time chirping; and
WHEREAS, the coqui frog poses a threat to Hawai`i's island ecosystem because of its
voracious appetite that puts our unique insects and spiders at risk; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2- 139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department /agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research & Development to provide a grant to the Hawaii County Economic
Opportunity Council for the purchase of citric acid to help control the coqui frog infestation in
Council District 2; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred /appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Department of Research & Development, the Hawai`i County Economic
Opportunity Council, and Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is hereby
authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
