Re: Agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of Public Safety
The State of Hawai`i Department of Public Safety's Hawai`i Community Correctional Center
(HCCC) provides labor assistance for various County projects such as the recent relocation of the
Department of Environmental Management, the Kapulena fencing project, the Kapoho cleanup
from Tropical Storm Iselle, and others. Currently, the County provides a vehicle and driver to
transport these laborers to and from project worksites because the HCCC does not have a vehicle
to do so.
The County of Hawai`i's Mass Transit Agency has a 1994 van that was scheduled for disposal by
auction. In lieu of disposal, we request that this van be donated to the State of Hawai`i Department
of Public Safety so that the HCCC may provide the transportation described above.
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawai`i
Department of Public Safety in order to donate this vehicle for their use, and to provide
indemnification for the County regarding the transaction. If you have any questions, please
