COUNTY OF HAWAII •��" •- STATE OF HAWAII OF• - RESOLUTION NO. 542 14 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII WILDLIFE CENTER TO PROTECT NATIVE SPECIES AND PROMOTE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN NATIVE WILDLIFE CONSERVATION. WHEREAS, the Hawai`i Wildlife Center(HWC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to protecting Hawai`i's native species and promoting community involvement in native wildlife conservation; and WHEREAS, HWC is located in North Kohala and is the only native wildlife hospital in the State of Hawai`i and the Pacific Islands; and WHEREAS, HWC is also the only response facility in the region for wildlife emergencies such as oil/contaminant spills, disease outbreaks, and natural disasters; and WHEREAS, HWC staff members are regarded as experts on native wildlife issues, and they provide wildlife response training, professional development, research, science education, and volunteerism; and WHEREAS, HWC makes valuable research projects on native species possible by serving as the designated response organization for the United States Geological Survey; and WHEREAS, HWC also provides learning opportunities for local students, specifically filling a need for science education resources within the Kohala School Complex; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawai`i Wildlife Center to help protect Hawai`i's native species and to promote community involvement in native wildlife conservation; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:
