RESOLUTION NO. 542 14
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAII
WILDLIFE CENTER TO PROTECT NATIVE SPECIES AND PROMOTE
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN NATIVE WILDLIFE CONSERVATION.
WHEREAS, the Hawai`i Wildlife Center(HWC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
that is dedicated to protecting Hawai`i's native species and promoting community involvement
in native wildlife conservation; and
WHEREAS, HWC is located in North Kohala and is the only native wildlife hospital in
the State of Hawai`i and the Pacific Islands; and
WHEREAS, HWC is also the only response facility in the region for wildlife
emergencies such as oil/contaminant spills, disease outbreaks, and natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, HWC staff members are regarded as experts on native wildlife issues, and
they provide wildlife response training, professional development, research, science education,
and volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, HWC makes valuable research projects on native species possible by
serving as the designated response organization for the United States Geological Survey; and
WHEREAS, HWC also provides learning opportunities for local students, specifically
filling a need for science education resources within the Kohala School Complex; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawai`i Wildlife Center
to help protect Hawai`i's native species and to promote community involvement in native
wildlife conservation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
