Re: Volcano Covered Court Phase II
I am a resident of Volcano, living in Ohia Estates subdivision, currently seyvirig on the Board
of Directors of the Volcano Community Association.
I request that you support appropriation of the necessary funding to complete the
construction of the multiuse facility at Cooper Center.
Volcano has a tradition of volunteer efforts that have yielded superior results in developing
Cooper Center. We have built both the community meeting center and Fuhrman Firehouse
using community resources. We plan to expand our meeting and marketing spaces, using
volunteer labor and have already committed most of the cost with funding raised by our
community volunteers. In addition, our fundraising and volunteer labor have provided the
grading under our planned multiuse facility.
As we developed plans for the multiuse facility, we realized that we needed some assistance
from the County, and approached the Mayor's office with plans for a covered court, Police
Sub-station, restrooms and a storage area. We appreciate your efforts to secure the
construction of the covered court, in Phase I, which we understand is currently out to bid.
Even without restrooms and storage space, a covered court will be used and appreciated by
many in our community, but not to the level possible with those additional features. The
storage space currently available in Cooper Center is full to overflowing, and some space
will be needed to store equipment such as nets and balls.
While a Police Sub-station may not be staffed for the forseeable future, we believe that it
could provide a proper location for officers to complete paperwork, and will eventually be
required to serve the needs of our growing community.
