REGARDING: BILL NO. 292 (COMMUNICATION NO. 1045)

LOCATION: HILO COUNCIL CHAMBERS, HILO, HAWAII
TITLE: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 19, ARTICLE 10,
SECTION 19-71 OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005
EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO ELIGIBILITY TO CLAIM
PROPERTY AS A PRINCIPAL HOME.
EXPLANATION: Introduced by Council Member Margaret Wille on September 10, 2014,
this legislation requires that a person applying for an exemption from the
real property tax rate on a principal home file a Hawai`i State Income Tax
Return as a full-year resident for each fiscal year that the exemption is
sought.
AMENDMENTS: Comm. No. Introducer Approved/Disapproved
None.
RECOMM.: Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Bill No. 292, and recommends passage on first reading.
