Hawaii County Council
In support of CZP J•~src?zng for Puna/K8`u
February 3, 1999
County Council chair Arakaki and Council Members,
As a long-time resident of P;a'u who has actively served this
community through participation in iaried organizations, I wish to
express my support of funding proposed in Bills before you.
Through numerous community-wive meetings over the past few
years, our Council representatives have learned about the pressing
needs of our region. Therefore, when our newly elected
representative, Julie Jacobson, presented the proposals in Bills
29, 30, 31, 32 and 33 to residenl.~; of Ka`u recently, we supported
the measures.
The improvements to the bathrooms in the County Parks will
help preserve the ocean resource= crhile providing tourists and the
local population with needed .acilities. Ocean View, an
under-servered area with a burcconinq population, requires a
transfer station. The residents. o.° volcano have put together a
tremendous effort to develop th«s qo+nmunity resource that is the
cooper Center.
I respectfully request the Council's approval of these Bills.
The District represented by rrs. Jacobson has traditionally
received less funding than other area, and, in fact, would receive
no direct benefits from the CSP Frorosal if these measures are not.
accepted.
Thank you for your considerat.on of my testimony.
Sincerely,
' "i
