A RESOLUTION URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION OF
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO CREATE A PLAQUE FOR THE NEW GYMNASIUM
AND SHELTERS HONORING REPRSENTATIVE BOB HERKES AND PRINCIPAL
LAURENCE CAPELLAS.
WHEREAS, the purpose of this resolution is to urge the Department of Parks and
Recreation to create a plaque for the new gymnasium and emergency shelter in Ka`u in honor of
Representative Robert "Bob" N. Herkes and Principal Laurence J. Capellas, Senior, now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
"Bob Herkes-Laurence Capellas Gymnasium and Shelters" have a plaque commemorating both
of these men to be placed at the site and delineate the good works they contributed to the Ka`u
District.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that plaque shall read:
Bob Herkes — Laurence Capellas Gymnasium and Shelters
This plaque commemorates the dedication of:
Representative Robert "Bob" N. Herkes
Who Provided For The
Public Health, Safety, And Welfare
Of The People Of Ka`u.
Principal Laurence J. Capellas, Sr.
Who Believed In Education
And Sports Activities
For The Children Of Ka`u.
Or any other statements on the plaque that meet with the requirements of the Department
of Parks and Recreation or wishes of the friends and families.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is directed to
transmit copies of this Resolution to (1) the Honorable William P. Kenoi, Mayor of the County
of Hawaii; (2) the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, and (3) Nancy Crawford,
Director of Finance.
