COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />4O •'�� ��J�i <br />'�>E CF•MAd� <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />582 14 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE KOHALA <br />CENTER FOR THE SCHOOL GARDEN PROGRAMS IN NORTH AND SOUTH <br />KOHALA. <br />WHEREAS, The Kohala Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is an independent, <br />community-based center that supports and perpetuates energy self-reliance, food self-reliance, <br />ecosystem health, research, conservation, and education; and <br />WHEREAS, the School Garden Programs cultivate the relationship between students <br />and the land through growing and sharing nourishing food in an outdoor living classroom, as <br />well as incorporating core curriculum subjects such as math and science; and <br />WHEREAS, the School Garden Programs also teach about the culture and history of <br />Hawaii Island and agricultural self-sufficiency and sustainability; and <br />WHEREAS, the School Garden Programs include Waimea Elementary and Middle <br />Schools, Waikoloa Elementary and Middle Schools, and Kohala Elementary, Middle, and High <br />Schools; and <br />WHEREAS, both the North and South Kohala Community Development Plans provide <br />for stewardship of the environment; and <br />WHEREAS, according to the Hawaii County Food Self -Sufficiency Baseline 2012, the <br />County will continue to support community-based initiatives that build local food system <br />capacity; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and <br />WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to <br />the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to The Kohala Center for the <br />School Garden Programs in North and South Kohala; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br />following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: <br />
