RESOLUTION NO. 591 14
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING /APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KANU O KA `AINA
LEARNING `GHANA (KALO) FOR THE ANNUAL HULA DRAMA.
WHEREAS, Kanu o ka `Aina Learning `Ghana (KALO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization that supports and perpetuates sustainable Hawaiian communities through education
and aloha; and
WHEREAS, KALO aims to provide a solid foundation to perpetuate Hawaiian culture,
which includes mo`olelo, hula, and oli traditions; and
WHEREAS, following the theme of the Worldwide Voyage of Hokule`a and Hikianalia,
the theme for the 2015 Hula Drama production will be "Malama Honua," to care for our natural
environment, as well as the children and all mankind; and
WHEREAS, these authentic productions created by current and future Hawaiian
practitioners incorporate dozens of traditional hula and chants with participants ranging from
toddler to adult; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2- 139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department /agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Kanu o ka `Aina Learning
`Ghana for the annual Hula Drama; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred /appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
