TITLE: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 25-8-33 (CITY OF HILO
ZONE MAP), ARTICLE 8, CHAPTER 25 (ZONING CODE) OF THE
HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005 EDITION), BY CHANGING
THE DISTRICT CLASSIFICATION FROM AGRICULTURAL — ONE
ACRE (A -la) TO NEIGHBORHOOD COMMERCIAL — 20,000
SQUARE FEET (CN -20) AT PONAHAWAI, SOUTH HILO, HAWAII,
COVERED BY TAX MAP KEY: 2-3-037:012.
EXPLANATION: Bill No. 304 was transmitted by the Mayor William P. Kenoi, via
Communication No. 1095, dated September 18, 2014. The area covers
approximately 1.02 acres. The applicant is David and Brenda Camacho.
The Windward Planning Commission forwards it favorable
recommendation for this change of zone, which would allow the applicant
to develop medical offices on the property.
One testifier was present in Hilo in support of Bill No. 304 as she is a
resident near the property and expressed major improvements made on the
property that accommodate the traffic in the area.
Prior to discussion, the applicant's planning consultant, Sidney Fuke,
provided a brief summary of the applicant's intent to open medical offices
and humbly requested the committee members present to favorably
consider rezoning application.
Committee member Yoshimoto opened discussion in support of the
project as it is consistent with the offices running in the area and the need
for medical offices is high. Mr. Onishi continued discussion by thanking
Mr. Fuke for clarifying the actual location of the property is further down
from the other medical offices located in the area. No further discussion
was held.
