Re: Strong Support for Bill 302, Relating to Electronic Smoking Devices
Thank you for the opportunity to submit testimony in strong support of Bill 302 for its
hearing on October 14. 1 serve as the Executive Director for the American Lung Association
in Hawaii, one of six states within the American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific.
Our mission is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
The use of such devices — which are not regulated by the FDA — in public places and
workplaces may complicate efforts to enforce and comply with smoke -free laws. And
because they have not been thoroughly evaluated, the American Lung Association supports
including them in smoke -free laws and ordinances at worksites and in public places.
We urge you to pass Bill 302 as one more step to better protecting the public health of
Hawaii's kama'aina and community.
