A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING /APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII ISLAND
UNITED WAY FOR LAVA FLOW DISASTER RELIEF.
WHEREAS, Hawaii Island United Way is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that
invests in Hawaii Island to build stronger, healthier communities; and
WHEREAS, the June 27th lava flow is still active in the district of Puna and could
possibly continue its path towards Pahoa Village and Highway 130; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii Island United Way will need supplemental funding to provide
emergency assistance to persons impacted by the lava flow; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2- 139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department /agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaii Island United Way
for lava flow disaster relief, including emergency assistance and other needs as deemed
necessary; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred /appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
