RESOLUTION NO. 17 14
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING /APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE HAWAII ISLAND HUMANE SOCIETY'S
ANIMAL COMMUNITY CENTER IN KEAUHOU.
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Humane Society (HIHS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization that was established in 1965 with the mission of preventing cruelty to animals,
eliminating pet overpopulation, and enhancing the bond between humans and animals; and
WHEREAS, HIHS is contracted by the Hawaii County Police Department to investigate
and resolve animal - related complaints and to enforce animal control laws; and
WHEREAS, HIHS is building an Animal Community Center in Keauhou that will
include a veterinary clinic, kennels for 60 dogs, cattery, education center, one -acre dog park,
horse park, walking trail, and other amenities; and
WHEREAS, the Animal Community Center is in need of lighting fixtures, ceiling fans,
smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers to complete the remodeling of two buildings; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to
the Police Department to provide financial assistance to the Hawaii Island Humane Society for
the Animal Community Center in Keauhou; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred /appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Chief of Police and Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
