My message to the
Aloha Chair Wille and Committee Members,
Committee:
I support Bill 318 protecting Hawaii's reef wildlife from harmful
aquarium trade starvation and insufficient water volume during
shipping.
When the needs of a few are placed above the many, government ceases
to function. Hawaii is dependent on the tourist trade for its
survival. The golden coast of west Hawaii was named after the yellow
tang. When aquarium fishermen ship hundreds of thousands of reef fish
off shore they are stripping Hawaii of its most precious resource.
Whit such blatant destruction of Hawaii's livelihood, the question
remains, why was this practice allowed to begin with? The answer lies
in the fact that the very people collecting reef fish are the same who
drew up legislation determining the rules governing their trade. The
time to stop this economically and ecologically harmful practice is
now.
