RESOLUTION NO. 164 99
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO ENTER
INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE.
WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Region IX has made available a program option which permits the State
Department of Defense, Civil Defense Division (State civil Defense) to provide
modest hurricane program grants to county civil defense agencies; and
WHEREAS, the enhancement of hurricane preparedness and awareness is
a key element in FEMA's national hurricane mitigation goals; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency proposes to
develop a citizens' brochure on disaster preparedness and awazeness for the
county; and
WHEREAS, the State Civil Defense has agreed to provide $5,000.00 for
the prepazation of said brochure;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII, that the County of Hawaii, through it's Hawaii County
Civil Defense Agency, is authorized to enter into an agreement with the State of
Hawaii Department of Defense, Civil Defense Division, for the purpose of
preparing a hurricane preparedness brochure;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the County of Hawaii is
authorized to sign any"agreement and related documents necessary to effectuate
the purposes described herein pursuant to the Hawaii County Charter.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the State of
Hawaii Department of Defense, Office of the Director of Civil Defense, and the
Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency.
