Aloha,
I would like submit testimony for NOT closing Hwy 130 early when the lava'
hits Pahoa Village Road. I live in Kapoho, and having to go the extra
distance over the emergency bypass road is not appealing in an emergency
situation nonetheless in anticipation of problems with rubberneckers and —
slowed vehicles trying to observe the flow. I feel we have more than enough [Na
National Guard and Police presence in the area to monitor and control these O
c•
people, it should not dictate the closing of the road early. I have faith
that Civil Defense will be able to close the road at the appropriate time
for safety reasons due to the lava - closing early is an unneeded burden on
those of us living south of the flow. Additionally, I work at Pahoa High
and Intermediate, and many of my colleagues have chosen to continue working
here and commuting from their homes in Hilo. It would again be an
unnecessary burden to have them travel additional miles and time on the
emergency road due to the potential disruption you are anticipating.
Mahalo,
Shannon Harbaugh
