Aloha,
I did not hear about providing testimony until my friend and fellow teacher sent me the email below. Please allow my
testimony to be added to others, although the 12:00 deadline has passed.
As an Hawaiian Shores resident, I need to continue to have access to Hwy 130, so I may travel back and forth to work at
Keaau High School, as well as access Hilo and other areas. We have been in the process of evacuating for weeks now,
but due to insurance issues, I cannot abandon my home, until I have received an evacuation notice.. Closing Hwy 130
any earlier than necessary would put a strain on my life, and those of other residents. I feel the National Guard, Police
and other agencies working around the clock should be used to provide assistance as neede to residents using the Hwy,
up until the last minute possible.
I understand lava is unpredictable, as I have already lost two homes in Royal Gardens
work everyone is doing for the residents of lower Puna.

Subject Regarding early closure of Hwy 130
I would like submit testimony for NOT closing Hwy 130 early when the lava hits Pahoa Village Road. I live in Nanawale,
and having to go the extra distance over the emergency bypass road is not appealing in an emergency situation
nonetheless in anticipation of problems with rubberneckers and slowed vehicles trying to observe the flow. I feel we have
more than enough National Guard and Police presence in the area to monitor and control these people, it should not
dictate the closing of the road early. I have faith that Civil Defense will be able to close the road at the appropriate time for
safety reasons due to the lava - closing early is an unneeded burden on those of us living south of the flow. Additionally, I
work at Pahoa High and Intermediate, and many of my colleagues have chosen to continue working here and commuting
from their homes in Hilo. It would again be an unnecessary burden to have them travel additional miles and time on the
emergency road due to the potential disruption you are anticipating. PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE THE ROAD ANY
SOONER THAN IS NECESSARY FOR SAFETY REASONS DUE TO THE LAVA ITSELF!
