Re: Resolution Accepting Donation o -
Enclosed is a resolution accepting the donation of twenty five forty -foot shipping containers, with
an estimated value of $1,000 per container, from Matson, ATTN: Russell J. Chin, District
Manager, Hawaii Island, 460 Kilauea Avenue, Suite 104, Hilo, Hawaii 96720. These containers
will be used by County departments and certain nonprofit organizations for emergency storage
during times of disaster.

RE: Resolution No 33 -15 : RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
TWENTY FIVE (25) FORTY (40) FOOT SHIPPING CONTAINERS FROM MATSON
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above - referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Finance to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request
is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Finance for placement on its future agenda.

A. REQUEST:
Please prepare a resolution to accept a donation of 25 40 -foot shipping containers valued at $ 25,000 (25
containers x $1,000 /per container) from Matson.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The donation will be used by county departments and non profit organizations for emergency storage in
times of disaster. Examples of use. The Department of Public Works will store equipment and material in
field and baseyards to maintain Railroad, Beach Road and Chain of Craters. The Foodbasket will use the
container as a staging area to store food items for distribution to food pantries in lower Puna.
